- Polaris Racing Ibéria/JB Racing driver Gonçalo Guerreiro wins his first-ever Baja España Aragón in the RZR Pro R Sport
The third round of the FIA World Baja Cup, the Baja España Aragón, saw an impressive finish for Portuguese team JB Racing and Polaris Racing Ibéria, claiming the top spot on the SSV podium last weekend.
The 40th edition of the Baja Aragón saw 23-year-old Portuguese pilot, Gonçalo Guerreiro, win in the SSV category in his debut at the race, alongside co-pilot José Sa Pires in the RZR Pro R Sport, triumphing among record-breaking 270 team entries across the different categories, including some of the world’s biggest names in rally racing. Not only that, but the pair also placed 13th overall.
Former national off-road champion, the young pilot set the tone from the offset, winning the prologue and then going on to set the fastest times in all three selective sectors of the race, finishing with a lead of more than 13 minutes over the second-placed team.
“I’m really happy with the outcome of this race; my first Baja Aragón will definitely be a race that I remember,” said Guerreiro. “The Baja Aragón isn’t an easy one – the heat, the dust, the rocks and clay – so to set the fastest times here in all selective sectors and the prologue is a testament to the hard work and dedication we’ve put in to compete at an international level. I am extremely thankful to our JB Racing family and the support from Polaris Racing Ibéria, we had the perfect companion in the RZR Pro R to win this by some margin.”
The team were joined on the SSV podium by Xtreme+ pilot Paul Severn and navigator Max Delfino who finished third in the Polaris RZR Pro R Sport.
The next FIA World Baja Cup round is the Baja Poland on 22-25 August.
