2ème Polaris Camp Maroc: La grande évasion

The second edition of Polaris Camp Morocco welcomed 80 participants and their passengers for an unforgettable off-road experience.

Taking place on Moroccan soil, the dimension reached by this raid exceeded the expectations of all who attended: 1900 kilometres covered in six stages from Fez to Midelt, then on to Merzouga, Erfoud and Toulal before reaching the starting point – a route that offered a variety of beautiful scenery and technical tracks.

Riders experienced the crossing of the northern Atlas Mountains, the gates to the desert plains of the Amada du Guir south of Ar Rachidia before branching off to the cathedral dunes of Erg Chebbi and Merzouga. Further south, the whitened tracks on the route from Taouz and the surrounding relief accentuated the feeling of isolation of these regions. Circuses, high plateaux, dunes, cliffs, oases, canyons, wadis, villages and isolated populations that followed one another over the days were all components that provided a richness of scenery, each as incredible as the next.

As the participants stopped along the route, many of them distributed presents and other treats to the children who were great supporters of the riders as they made their way along the route. The distances covered each day, the demands of certain tracks, the high temperatures in the desert and the very low temperatures in the Atlas mountains, all added to the triumph of completing the challenge.

The two Berber bivouacs hosted in Erg Chebbi and Toulal brought the participants a perfect communion with the Moroccan desert, made up of khaïma, a typical Berber tent. The organisation team of more than 20 people, including medical staff, were able to watch over all the participants at all times, who were constantly geolocated. The Polaris France technical assistance team were available at all times to monitor and assist with machine preparation and repairs in the evenings of each stage.

This magnificent Moroccan event was made possible thanks to a positive health situation and the Moroccan authorities, represented by the Ministry of Tourism, who gave the green light for this raid to take place. All the protocols were rigorously respected in this host country. The long wait for everyone since March 2020, following two postponements due to the Covid pandemic, has been amply rewarded by this edition, proven by the smiles on the faces of those who have conquered the race and detached their helmets for the last time at the end of this incredible adventure.
