Polaris Industries unveiled an industry first today ahead of its annual Polaris Camp event in Reygades, France (16-17 September) with the introduction of ABS to its versatile side-by-side GENERAL for model year 18 – the first time such a system has been made available in the industry.
Developed at the Polaris Opole facility in Poland, the GENERAL 1000 EPS Deluxe – T1b ABS is the market’s first Tractor homologated side-by-side to feature ABS, making the already versatile vehicle even better for both work and pleasure.
Upon unveiling the new GENERAL, Rene Basei, Polaris EMEA Vice President, commented, “Innovation is at the forefront of everything we do at Polaris, so to be the first to bring ABS to this market is something we are extremely proud of. With GENERAL specifically, we have a very versatile machine with the ability to cover demanding roles, be it work or pleasure. This makes the application of ABS even more relevant with more diverse use in a variety of conditions and surfaces.”
Developed specifically for the European market, the GENERAL ABS has seen direct collaboration between Polaris R&D teams in the USA and Poland, delivering a clever and robust system that is switchable at lower speeds, with real off-road ability.
Jean Osmont, EMEA Product Manager for Off-Road Vehicles, commented, “Thanks to development carried out both in the USA and in our facility in Opole, the new system is both robust and intelligent. While ABS is traditionally associated with hard surface applications, our engineers have worked hard to deliver braking performance that aids off-road use in tough and diverse conditions. This combined with the best in class ground clearance and suspension of the GENERAL offers ultimate control and uncompromised performance.”
The unique ability of the GENERAL to soak up the daily grind before carving out the trails for fun make it the perfect go-anywhere, do-anything side-by-side. Where others specialise in one arena, GENERAL offers great performance and practicality everywhere. With its 999cc 4-stroke twin cylinder engine and its traction delivered via its True On-Demand All-Wheel-Drive system, the 2018 GENERAL is the most versatile side-by-side ever offered by Polaris.
Other technical enhancements for the whole Polaris GENERAL range include a revised CV Propshaft for reduced driveline noise, passenger door enhancements and new colour options.
The MY18 GENERAL line-up will consist of the following models:
GENERAL 1000 EPS Premium (in painted Radar Blue)
GENERAL 1000 EPS Deluxe (in painted Titanium Metallic)
GENERAL 1000 EPS Deluxe – T1b ABS (in painted Titanium Metallic)
GENERAL 4 1000 EPS (in painted Black Pearl)
